What is Bidit?

Make us an offer. Yes, really!

Let's start with the good bit. That piece you keep going back to, the one you love but end up closing the tab on right at the checkout? You can now tell us exactly what you'd be happy to pay for it. Maybe it's a lab-grown solitaire, maybe it's a watch you've earmarked for your dad. Whatever it is, you name your number right there on the product page, we take a look, and we come back to you with a deal. No more waiting around for a sale that might never include the exact thing you want.

This is the part we're excited about, because this is for you. Make us an offer.

It's called Bidit, and it lives on the product page right where you'd normally tap add to cart. Want it, offer on it, love it. It might be the most Bevilles thing we've ever added to the site, and it's quietly changing how our regulars shop with us.

Why we built this

Look at everything we've put in place over the years and it all points the same way. We added finance options like Afterpay, Zip and humm to almost everything so the total isn't a wall. We brought in same-day Click and Collect so you're not waiting a week to wear something you bought on your lunch break. We ship for free once you tip over $80. We back our jewellery with a 365-day factory warranty. We knock $25 off your first order when you join the Eternity Club.

None of that is charity. We'd simply rather you left with the piece than left wishing you had.

Here's the thing about buying online, though. For all its convenience, it tends to be a one-way conversation. A price appears, and your only two options are take it or leave it. In a market or a little jeweller's shop you could always ask the question, and online that question had nowhere to go. We've finally given it somewhere to go.

The last gap was a say in the actual price. A sale is a number we choose. Finance changes how you pay, not what you pay. What our customers kept asking for, in a hundred quiet little ways, was room to put forward a figure that felt right to them. Bidit is us handing you the pen.

And to be straight about it, this came from you. From the messages, the full carts left overnight, the shoppers who told our team in store that they loved something but wanted to think about the price. We were listening. This is what we did with it.

So what is Bidit, really?

Bidit is a make-an-offer button that sits on the product page, right where you'd normally hit "add to cart." Instead of only accepting the price on the tag, you tell us what you'd be happy to pay, and we come back to you with a deal. Want it, offer on it, love it. That's the whole idea, and it really is as simple as it sounds.

A few things worth knowing before you jump in. Your offer is private. There's no shopfront and no salesperson reading your face to work out how much you really want it. No queue building behind you at a counter while you decide. It's you, the piece, and a number you feel good about.

You're not lowballing a person, either. The whole thing is built into the site on purpose, because we put it there and we want you to use it. Making an offer is exactly as welcome as adding to cart. It's just a different door into the same checkout.

How to make an offer, step by step

Here is exactly how it works from your side of the screen.

  1. Find something you love. Browse the Bidit collection on our website, or keep an eye out for the little "make an offer" badge as you shop the site. If a piece is showing the badge, it's open to offers.
  2. Open the product page. Check the things you'd check anyway. The metal, the carat weight, the ring size, the chain length, whether the diamond is lab-grown or mined. Make sure it's the one before you go any further.
  3. Choose "make an offer" instead of adding straight to cart. A small window opens where you can pop in your number.
  4. Enter the price you'd happily pay. This is your figure, not ours. Type in what feels right for your budget and send it through. It takes about ten seconds. You get two offers per day.
  5. Get your answer. We come back to you with a personalised deal. If your offer works as is, you're done. If we can meet you at a number nearby, you'll see that too, and whether you take it is entirely up to you.
  6. Check out as normal. Once you're happy with the price, you pay the way you always do and your piece ships express, free, if you're over $80.

That's the lot. No account gymnastics, no coupon codes to hunt down, no waiting for a stocktake sale that may or may not include the exact thing you wanted.

Let's walk through a couple of real ones

Say you've had your eye on that 1.70ct lab-grown diamond solitaire. It has already come down from $1,799 to $699, which is a strong number for a stone that size. You love it. You're also buying a new mattress this month, and $699 is still $699.

Old you closes the tab and tells yourself maybe in the new year. New you opens the product page, taps make an offer, and puts forward the figure that would make it an easy yes for your budget right now. We take a look and come back. Maybe your number lands. Maybe we meet you partway. Either way you've spent thirty seconds and you're holding a real answer instead of a maybe. Compare that to refreshing the sale page every Friday for a month and hoping.

Now flip it to a gift. Father's Day is coming and you've settled on a $259 Tommy Hilfiger watch for your dad. Lovely choice, and also the kind of spend that makes you pause when there are three other people still on your list. Same move. Open the watch, make your offer, see what comes back, and put whatever you save toward the card and the wrapping, or a second little something for him.

It works on a $49 pair of sterling silver studs you're adding to an order to nudge yourself over the free-shipping line, and it works on a serious diamond you'll wear for the rest of your life. Small piece or big rock, the button does the same job.

One more, because it's the sort of thing offers were made for. You've been slowly upgrading your everyday pieces and you've found a diamond stud you love, except it's sitting about fifty dollars above where you wanted to land this month. That's a textbook offer. Put your number forward, and more often than not you're wearing them this week instead of bookmarking them for next month.

want it, bidit, love it.

Where an offer really earns its keep

There's no wrong time to make an offer, but a few moments are made for it.

Engagement and wedding rings are the obvious one. This is usually the biggest jewellery decision you'll ever make, and the moment where every hundred dollars has somewhere else it could go, whether that's the honeymoon or the wedding band to match. If you've found the ring, it's worth putting your number forward before you commit.

Gifting is the other. A birthday, an anniversary, a bridesmaid thank-you, that watch your dad won't buy himself. When you're buying for someone else, an offer lets you get them something a notch nicer than you'd planned, or keeps a little back for the next name on the list. Nobody needs to know you got a better price. That part stays between you and us.

And then there's you: the stack you've been building one piece at a time, or the watch you've well and truly earned after the year you've had. Treating yourself lands a bit sweeter when you had a hand in the price.

How to make an offer that actually lands

Bidit is not a magic "everything is now ninety percent off" machine, and walking in with that expectation is the fastest way to be disappointed. A few honest pointers.

Know the piece before you offer. A 2.00ct lab-grown solitaire and a pair of cubic zirconia studs are not the same conversation, and a number that's fair on one would be a bit silly on the other. The product page lays out the metal, the stones and the making of it. Have a read, then pitch a figure that respects what you're actually buying.

Offer a figure you'd be glad to pay. The offer that works best is the one where, if we say yes, you're reaching for your card without a second thought. Numbers that come in wildly under what a piece is worth tend to go nowhere, and fair enough. Aim for the price that would make this an easy yes for you today, rather than the lowest figure you can type with a straight face.

Move while it's in stock. Offers are on live products, so the usual rule applies. When your ring size or the last one in the cabinet sells, it's gone. If you love it, don't sit on it for three weeks.

Don't overthink it. This isn't a test, and there's no clever tactic you're missing. Put forward the number that would make you happy, and let us come back to you.

The questions we get asked

Does it cost anything to make an offer? No. Putting forward an offer is free, every time, and there's no obligation to buy if the number doesn't work for you.

Is this a real thing, or just a way to grab my email? It's real. If your offer works, you buy the piece at that price and it ships like any other order, backed by the same warranty as everything else on the site. It's the same jewellery whether you pay the listed price or make an offer.

What happens if my offer is way too low? Nothing awkward. Nobody tells you off. A very low offer simply tends not to land, and you're welcome to try again or buy at the listed price. There's no penalty for asking.

How long until I hear back? You'll get your answer quickly. This isn't a "wait a week and cross your fingers" situation. The point of Bidit is that it happens in the moment, while you're still on the piece and still keen.

Can I make more than one offer? Yes, you get 2 tries per day per product. If your first number doesn't land, come back and try again, or simply buy at the listed price. Nothing stops you finding a figure that works for both of us.

bidit offer too low. try again tomorrow

Does it work on my phone? It does. Most of you shop with us on the couch with a phone in hand, and Bidit is built for exactly that. Find the piece, tap make an offer, done, without getting up.

Can I change my mind afterwards? Of course. An offer only becomes a purchase once you've checked out and paid, and after that you're covered by our usual returns policy and the 365-day warranty, exactly as you would be on a full-price buy.

Can I have it sent to someone else? Yes. At checkout you can ship an offer purchase to any address in Australia, so it's an easy way to send a gift straight to the person it's for, still with free express delivery once you're over $80.

You're offering on the real thing

Worth saying plainly, because people do wonder. Making an offer never gets you a lesser version of anything. The diamond is the same diamond. Our lab-grown Meera stones are graded and real, our mined diamonds are the genuine article, and the brand-name watches are exactly that, whether it's Casio, Seiko, Tommy Hilfiger or G-Shock. With more than 6,000 pieces on the site and a 365-day warranty behind them, an offer price gets you the identical piece you'd get at full price, just for a number that suited you better.

Which pieces can you offer on?

Look for the make-an-offer badge as you shop, or start in the Bidit range, where everything open to offers sits in one spot. It covers a proper cross-section of the store, so you'll find offers across diamonds, gold, watches and everyday silver rather than only the odds and ends we're trying to clear. If a product is showing the badge, your offer is welcome on it.

People are loving this

Here's the part that surprised even us. Making an offer turns out to be a bit moreish. Since we switched Bidit on, close to half our users who make an offer come back and do it again. They come back because landing a price that feels like yours is a nicer way to buy something than paying whatever the tag says and hoping it drops later.

That's the whole point in a single number. You asked for a say, and nearly half of you have liked having one enough to use it more than once. We'll take that as a yes.

More than a button

We think of Bidit as the newest part of a much longer promise. The free express shipping, the same-day Click and Collect, the finance, the warranty, the $25 for new Eternity Club members. All of it exists because we'd rather make it easy for you to own something you love than hold the line on a price and watch you leave.

That promise runs on listening, and we're not finished because Bidit keeps adding cool new products to its suite of cool products.

So here's the simplest way to put all of this to work. Go and find the piece you closed the tab on last time. It's very likely still there, still waiting for you. This time, head to the Bidit range, make it an offer, and see what comes back.
