Gold Bracelets FAQs

What are Belcher bracelets?

You may well have heard the term ‘Belcher’, as in a gold Belcher bracelet. But why is it called that? Well, the Belcher chain originated in Britain during the 18th century. Now a timeless gold chain style, the belcher chain adopted its name for Jem Belcher, a champion bare knuckle boxer who sported them.

It is also known as a Rolo (this means round in Italian) chain, and is cut and shaped into individual, identical round or oval links, which are then interlocked together. Each link is then closed and soldered to form a chain.

Gold Belcher bracelets are beloved worldwide for their simple look and for the versatility they offer as either a stand-alone chain or with a pendant, and with a host of different outfits and ensembles.

Which arm do you wear bracelets on?

Bracelets have been around for millennia, and have been worn on both arms for just as long. Most people simply wear bracelets on whatever wrist feels more comfortable and natural, usually your off-hand.

Some people believe that the left side of the body is associated with healing and good luck, and wear bracelets on that side to keep negative energy away and absorb positive energy from your surroundings. However, we cannot validate this theory.

Which way should a bracelet face?

Whether you prefer chic white gold bracelets or chunky gold ball bracelets, it’s natural to have some styling questions. One question we get asked here at Bevilles is about which way a bracelet should face.

This generally refers to ID bracelets, name bracelets, charm bracelets and other bracelet styles that have a pendant that can either face towards you, or people who may be admiring it.

Our answer is that it depends on you. If the bracelet is deeply personal and sentimental, have it face towards you so you can appreciate it better. But if one of the reasons you like wearing jewellery is to show it off, maximise its appeal to other people.
